Travelers is one of the largest property and casualty insurers in the country, founded in 1853 and rated A++ Superior by AM Best. They write homeowners, auto, umbrella, and commercial lines through independent agents across Georgia. Travelers is a core carrier for higher-value North Atlanta homes, bundled home and auto, and commercial accounts.
This is what the claims process actually looks like based on published data and complaint records.
Claims ExperienceTravelers claims are handled through a network of company adjusters and independent contractors. Response times on straightforward property claims are generally good. Complex commercial claims and large homeowners losses get more thorough review, which can slow the process. Online and app-based claim filing available. Georgia clients report mixed experiences on larger claims, with some delays in settlement on structural losses.
Travelers prices toward the middle to upper end of the market on homeowners and toward competitive on auto when bundled. They are not a carrier for clients shopping purely on premium. Their pricing reflects conservative underwriting that leads to more stable rates over time compared to carriers that price aggressively to win business and then increase sharply after claims.
Against Nationwide: similar financial strength, Travelers edges ahead on commercial lines depth. Against Openly: Travelers offers broader product range but Openly writes a broader homeowners policy. Against Progressive: Travelers wins on homeowners quality, Progressive wins on auto pricing for most profiles. Against Safeco: very similar independent-agent positioning, Travelers has stronger commercial.
Do We Work With Them?
Yes. Travelers is one of our preferred carriers for both personal and commercial lines.
Georgia Appetite
Travelers has strong appetite for higher-value Georgia homes and is competitive on bundled home and auto in North Atlanta. They have been conservative on older roofs and homes with recent claims.
AM Best A++ rating, the highest possible. One of the most financially secure carriers in the US.
Strong claims handling reputation, particularly for commercial property and liability claims.
Broad coverage options including valuable items, identity fraud, and green home rebuild coverage.
J.D. Power home satisfaction scores run slightly below industry average, indicating room for improvement in the customer experience side.
Underwriting can be conservative, making it harder to qualify after claims or with older homes.
Not a good fit for
Older homes with roofs over 15 years, properties with multiple claims, or manufactured homes. Travelers' underwriting criteria have tightened on older roofs in Georgia, and they are not the right fit for non-standard risks.
