Does any of this describe your situation right now?

You are not alone. These are the situations we hear most often.

Your renewal came in higher again this year.

Carriers are repricing risk across the country. Premiums are rising faster than most people expected. But a higher premium does not automatically mean better coverage. Do you know what changed in your policy at your last renewal, or did you just pay the bill?

Your lender picked your insurance. You just signed.

Your lender required insurance and you got it. But lender-placed insurance is designed to protect the lender's investment, not necessarily yours. Have you ever compared what your policy covers against what you actually own and what it would cost to replace?

A client is asking for your certificate of insurance.

A client or partner is asking for proof of coverage. Do you know immediately what your policy covers, what its limits are, and whether those limits are actually sufficient for the work you do? Most business owners do not until they are asked.

You had a claim. It was denied or paid less than you expected.

A claim gets denied or pays out less than expected. This happens more often than most people realize and almost always comes down to a policy exclusion the policyholder never knew existed. Have you ever read the exclusions section of your policy?

THE INSURANCE GAP IN AMERICA

Most people think they are covered. The data says otherwise.

These are not estimates or projections. They are findings from independent research organizations, industry surveys, and federal data. The numbers describe the current state of insurance coverage in the United States.

60%of American homes are underinsured

Their policy limits would not cover the actual cost of rebuilding if the home were destroyed. Most homeowners have no idea their coverage has fallen behind construction costs.

When did you last check whether your dwelling coverage limit reflects what it would actually cost to rebuild your home today?CoreLogic and Consumer Federation of America, 2024
1 in 8drivers on US roads has no auto insurance

If an uninsured driver causes an accident that injures you or damages your vehicle, your own uninsured motorist coverage is the only protection you have. Most people have never checked what that limit is.

Do you know how much uninsured motorist coverage your auto policy carries right now?Insurance Research Council, 2019, most recent available national estimate
75%of US small businesses are underinsured

According to a survey of 1,000 small business owners, three in four do not have adequate coverage and more than 70 percent do not understand what their policy covers.

Has your business changed since you last reviewed your policy? Revenue, employees, services, location. Any change can create a gap your original policy does not cover.Hiscox Underinsurance in Small Business Report, 2023
40%of small business owners have no business insurance at all

Nearly half of all small businesses are operating with zero protection against property damage, liability claims, or business interruption. Many assume their personal coverage extends to their business. It does not.

If a client were injured at your business or you caused damage to a client's property tomorrow, do you know with certainty that you are covered?Census.gov, SBA, multiple sources

Statistics cited reflect independent third-party research and industry studies as noted. Sources include CoreLogic, Consumer Federation of America, Insurance Research Council, and Hiscox. Data reflects the most recent available study year for each source. Olive Cover has not independently verified these figures. This information is provided for general educational awareness only and does not constitute insurance advice.

Coverage gaps

Do any of these gaps exist in your policy right now?

Read each one and ask yourself honestly whether you know the answer for your own coverage. Most people find at least one they cannot answer with certainty.

Does your policy cover flood damage? Most do not.
Standard homeowners policies exclude flood damage entirely. It is not a hidden clause. It is a standard exclusion most agents never explain clearly. One inch of water causes an average of $25,000 in damage according to FEMA. If you do not have a separate flood policy your homeowners insurance pays nothing for a flood claim. Do you know which you have?
If you rent out your home, is it covered?
The moment a tenant moves into a property you own, a standard homeowners policy stops covering it. You need a landlord policy. This is not widely known and most people find out when they file a claim after a tenant-related incident and the claim is denied. Do you have the right policy type for every property you own?
Are your auto liability limits actually enough to protect you?
State minimum auto limits are the legal floor, not a recommended coverage level. A single serious accident can generate medical bills and legal costs that exceed minimum limits by a significant amount. The difference comes out of your personal assets. Do you know your current liability limits and whether they match your actual financial exposure?
If you run a business from home, are you actually covered?
Standard homeowners policies exclude business equipment, client liability, and professional errors entirely. According to a 2023 Hiscox survey, 75 percent of small businesses are underinsured and most do not realize it. If a client visits your home office and is injured, or your business laptop is stolen, your homeowners policy almost certainly will not pay. Do you know whether your current coverage includes any business protection?
GEORGIA INSURANCE UPDATE

What is happening with insurance in Georgia right now.

GEORGIA MARKET
Georgia home values have risen significantly across the state. Most homeowners policies have not kept up.

Whether you are in Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus, or anywhere in between, dwelling coverage that was right three years ago may leave a six-figure gap at claim time. Here is how to check yours.

Am I underinsured right now?
GEORGIA LAW
Georgia auto minimums are 25/50/25. They have not changed since 2000.

Medical costs have tripled since then. State minimum coverage is legal. It is not protection.

What auto limits do I actually need?
GEORGIA FLOOD
FEMA is repricing flood risk across Georgia. Is your zip code affected?

The National Flood Insurance Program updated its risk model. Some Georgia homeowners are seeing significant premium changes.

BEFORE YOU CALL US

Five questions worth asking yourself right now.

You do not need to talk to anyone to answer these. Just read each one honestly. If you find yourself saying "I do not know" to even one of them, that is exactly what a coverage review finds out.

1
When did you last look at your declarations page? This is the one-page summary at the front of your policy. It shows every coverage type, every limit, and every deductible. If you cannot remember the last time you read it your coverage may not match your current situation.
2
Has anything changed since you bought your current policy?A renovation, a new vehicle, a home-based business, a rental property, a new family member. Any of these can create a gap your original policy does not cover. Insurance does not automatically update when your life does.
3
Do you know what your policy excludes?Every policy has an exclusions section that lists what it does not cover. Flood, earthquake, business use, and professional liability are common exclusions most people discover only after a claim is denied.
4
Are your coverage limits based on current costs?Reconstruction costs have risen significantly in recent years. A dwelling limit that was right three years ago may leave a significant gap at current construction prices. The same applies to liability limits and medical cost exposure.
5
Do you know exactly what would happen if you filed a claim tomorrow? Not roughly. Exactly. Which coverage applies, what your deductible is, what the limit is, and whether the incident you are imagining is actually covered or excluded. Most people cannot answer this with confidence.

If you answered I do not know to even one of these questions, a coverage review will give you a clear answer. It takes about 15 minutes. It costs nothing. You are not obligated to change anything. We tell you what you have, what you are missing, and what it would cost to fix it. You decide what to do with that information.

How agents work

Not all insurance agents work for you

The type of agent matters more than most people realize. It determines how many options you see and who is in your corner when you file a claim.

Captive Agent

e.g. State Farm, Allstate, Farmers

  • One company only -- no real comparison
  • Cannot quote other carriers
  • Represents the insurer, not you
  • No incentive to find you a better price
Olive Cover

Independent Agent

  • Shops multiple A-rated carriers for you
  • Finds the best rate for your situation
  • Works for you -- not the insurer
  • Your advocate when you file a claim
Free Coverage Review

Online / Direct

e.g. Geico, Lemonade, online tools

  • Price comparison only
  • No coverage advice
  • No licensed agent on your side
  • You manage everything yourself
