Business Owners Policy - Georgia Small Business

Business Owners Policy: The Foundation of Small Business Coverage in Georgia

A BOP bundles general liability and commercial property into one policy at a lower combined cost than buying each separately. Most Georgia small businesses need one.

What a BOP Covers

General Liability

Covers bodily injury and property damage claims from customers or third parties. If a customer slips in your office or you damage a client's property, GL pays the legal fees and settlement.

Commercial Property

Covers your building, equipment, inventory, and furniture against fire, theft, vandalism, and most weather events. Replacement cost coverage ensures you are not underpaid after a loss.

Business Interruption

Pays lost income and ongoing expenses if a covered loss forces you to close temporarily. Most policies cover up to 12 months of lost revenue while you rebuild or relocate.

Equipment Breakdown and HNOA

Covers physical and mechanical breakdown of HVAC, refrigeration, computers, and electrical systems that standard property excludes. Often added to BOPs as Hired and Non-Owned Auto for businesses where employees occasionally drive personal vehicles for work.

What a BOP Does Not Cover

Professional Errors

BOP general liability does not cover mistakes in your professional work. A consultant who gives bad advice needs a separate errors and omissions policy.

Employee Injuries

Workers compensation is excluded from a BOP. Georgia requires workers comp for businesses with 3 or more employees. It must be purchased separately.

Commercial Auto

Vehicles owned or used for business are not covered under a BOP. You need a separate commercial auto policy for any business vehicle.

Flood and Earthquake

Standard BOP policies exclude flood and earthquake damage. Separate flood coverage is required for properties in FEMA flood zones.
