BOAT INSURANCE ยท GEORGIA

Georgia boat insurance that actually covers how and where you use the boat.

A 19-foot bowrider on Lake Lanier and a 35-foot cruiser on the Intracoastal Waterway are different risks. We place boat insurance on specialty marine carriers that write watercraft as their core business, not as an afterthought add-on to a homeowners policy.

WHAT'S COVERED

What a Georgia boat policy covers

Hull and Machinery

Covers the boat against collision, grounding, theft, and weather. Agreed value is the right option, not actual cash value.

Liability and Medical

Pays for injuries and property damage caused by the boat. Carry $500k to $1M for anything over 20 feet or with passengers.

Uninsured Boater

Pays for injuries caused by an at-fault boater with no insurance, which is alarmingly common on inland and coastal waters.

Fuel Spill and Wreck Removal

Covers federally-mandated fuel spill cleanup and wreck removal. Both are expensive and often excluded on generic policies.

IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS

What boat insurance does not cover

Navigation outside the schedule

Most policies restrict navigation to specific waters (inland lakes, coastal, blue water). Operating outside the schedule voids coverage at claim time. If you trailer to a new lake or head offshore, the policy needs to know.

Wear, corrosion, marine growth

Gradual deterioration is always excluded. Osmotic blistering, electrolysis, and bottom growth are owner maintenance issues.

Racing and competition

Standard policies exclude racing. Specialty racing coverage is a separate product.

Commercial and charter use

Any paid charter, fishing guide work, or commercial use requires a commercial marine policy. A personal boat policy with any paid use will be denied at claim.
