Georgia nonprofits face unique risks: volunteer boards, donor-funded operations, and programs serving vulnerable populations. Standard commercial insurance often misses the exposures nonprofits face most.

What Nonprofit Insurance Covers

Nonprofit BOP

Package policy covering the nonprofit's building, equipment, and liability. Covers property damage, general liability for events and operations, and abuse and molestation coverage critical for organizations serving minors or vulnerable populations.

Directors & Officers (D&O)

Nonprofit D&O protects board members and directors from personal liability for board decisions. Particularly important for volunteer boards where members' personal assets could otherwise be exposed. Almost every nonprofit should carry this.

Employment Practices & Volunteer Liability

EPL covers claims by employees and volunteers for wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Volunteer-heavy nonprofits have particular exposure; abuse and molestation coverage is often bundled.

Crime and Fidelity Bonds

Protects Georgia nonprofits from theft of donor funds, embezzlement, and dishonest acts by staff or volunteers handling cash, checks, or financial accounts. Required by many grantors and foundation funders.

What Nonprofit Insurance Typically Excludes

Professional Services (Usually)

Professional services rendered by a nonprofit (counseling, medical, legal) typically require separate professional liability coverage. Standard nonprofit BOP does not cover professional errors.

Criminal Acts

Criminal acts by board members, staff, or volunteers are excluded. Background check and proper governance documentation reduces but does not eliminate this exposure.

Environmental Exposure

Pollution and environmental claims are typically excluded. Nonprofits with environmental operations need separate environmental liability coverage.

For-Profit Revenue Activities

For-profit activity conducted by the nonprofit (retail, catering, fundraising operations beyond donations) may trigger coverage limitations. Disclose all revenue activity at application.
